Have you ever felt like the characters on Game of Thrones are eating directly from our CSA Shares??? From the day Ros left Winterfell on a turnip cart, I couldn’t help but notice the plethora of turnips, carrots, leeks, parsnips, and beets these characters are consuming with their whole roasted animals and stews. Game of Thrones Season 5 premieres Sunday April 12th, and storage root vegetables with local meat are the perfect pair for your viewing party. Stop by your local Farmer’s Market this weekend – winter might soon end in Central New York, but in Westoros it’s still coming. Serve any of these with a hearty dark, hearty ale or red wine. I’m sure your favorite character would agree with large amounts of either! For dessert, you know what to do – Lemon Cakes for Sansa.
Irish Lamb Stew – Not quite a roast leg of lamb, but easy and perfect for those previously mentioned turnips.
Beef Stew with Red Wine & Herbs – we’re sure wine is a welcome addition to any meal, be sure to serve some alongside with it.
Simple Roasted Chicken – add honey if you want to get authentic
Leek & Potato Soup – leek and root soups are common in the Seven Kingdoms
Butter Braised Carrots & Beets – while not expressly mentioned, butter + root vegetables always have their place in Westoros
Leeks & Carrots – mentioned in the latest book.
Parsnip Cheddar Scones – Parsnips are a plenty!
Balsamic Roasted Onions – add gravy to throwback to Season 1.
Apple & Pomegranate Fall Salad – add pine nuts if you want to be like Cersei.
