What is CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)?
CSA is much different than going to the local grocery store to buy your vegetables. Joining our CSA means you are entering a direct partnership with our farm. CSA members commit in advance to a share of the upcoming harvest and are ensured high-quality local produce, and our farm is ensured a consistent market. Every week, we pick our produce directly from our organic vegetable fields in Homer and Cortland, NY. After harvest, we pack up your veggies and deliver them to convenient pick-up locations in your neighborhood.
By signing up to be a member of the farm early in the year, you are helping us to purchase seeds, turn on the greenhouses, and plan correctly for the upcoming growing season.
On the day before your pickup each week, we will send you an e-newsletter listing the vegetables in your share, as well as recipes and cooking tips to help you use your bounty!
What does a CSA Membership Include?
- A weekly delivery of seasonal vegetables and herbs bursting with flavor and freshly harvested from our fields.
- A picture and recipe filled weekly newsletter that includes details about how to handle and store your produce.
- You will also have access to our online recipe database, cooking and storage tips. You are also invited to join us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram (@mainstreetfarms)
How many weeks am I signing up for?
Our CSA season starts in early June and goes into November, spanning 22 weeks. This year we are attempting to provide veggies year round. At the end of our regular 22 week season, we will contact you about continuing to receive CSA shares. You can decide to go on hold or cancel your share if you wish not to continue after the initial 22 weeks.
What’s in a CSA box?
We grow over 50 different types of vegetables and herbs, and each week, members receive a share filled with a variety of items. The number of vegetables in your share is dependent on your share size.
We have 2 size boxes:
- 1-2 Person Share: Includes 8-10 items
- 3-4 Person Share: Includes 10-12 items
Our farmers pick the items that go into the share each week based on availability.
Can I choose what goes in my share?
If you want to support the farm but want to be able to choose your items, you can pick up at our farm in Cortland or at the Syracuse Farmers Market. At these locations we setup a market style table and you can choose 8-12 items based on your share size. Want 3 heads of Kale? Go for it! Hate kohlrabi? Skip it! This provides the same flexibility as shopping at a grocery store but you get a great value! The CSA pricing works out to a 20%-30% savings on retail price – so if you frequent the farmers market this is a great option for you to stock up on veggies at a great price!
How much does it cost to become a member?
The cost of your CSA share depends on the share size you order. We have two sizes:
1-2 Person Share
3-4 Person Share
(Veggie Lover Share)
