Paleo and Our CSA

At the farm we don’t stick to one type of diet, vegan, vegetarian, raw, paleo, gluten free-we try them all and we feature recipes for all types of diets.  Anything with fresh, local produce at the forefront is fair game in our kitchen!  As our members work to increase vegetable consumption in their diets some are going grain-free, and sticking to a Paleo Diet.  What is a Paleo Diet?  Well, from the bits I’ve read it’s a diet based on whole foods, starting with fresh fruits and vegetables.  Paleo followers don’t eat dairy, grains, legumes, or any processed foods.  They prefer local grass-fed and pasture raised meats (so do we!) and stay away from sugar and sweeteners.  There’s a lot of info on the internet and blogosphere about what kind of vegetables to eat, but for our blog we feel comfortable categorizing any recipe without dairy, grains, or legumes and containing mostly fresh vegetables as Paleo.  We definitely don’t want to get in an argument with anyone about what is or isn’t Paleo!  We just added a Paleo tab to our Recipe Index, be sure to check it out!

If you are following a Paelo Diet joining a CSA is a GREAT way to get high-quality produce at a great price.  Our Basic CSA Share boasts 30-35 servings of fresh, certified organic produce packed in a 1/2 bushel box each week.  The total share cost is $460, which breaks down to just $20 per week.  The Premium CSA Share is just $5 more per week, and you’ll get 40-45 servings in your 3/4 bushel box.  To learn more visit our Share Options page and Sign-up online.

Here’s some of our favorites in the Paleo Section.  Be sure to let us know what kinds of recipes you’re looking for in the comments, we’re looking to expand the Paleo Section this year!
