Week 13 Basic Share Meal Plan

Week 13: September 2nd – 6th

Basic Share Box:  Tomatoes, Sweet PepperOnionLettuce, Cabbage, Beets, Potato, Dill, Kale

It’s hard to believe that Labor Day has passed us and fall is just around the corner! It’s time once again for our annual Harvest Dinner to support Healthy Food For All – scroll down for more details. This week’s share includes more tomatoes – we made two versions of a simple pasta this week in the farm kitchen. Dill is back, beets are on, it’s a great time of year to be a CSA member! We also started harvesting the first of our potato crop this week, we’re growing a variety with red skin, similar to a new potato. Great for boiling, roasting, or mashing. Cabbage is also back in the shares – and this planting is bringing in big heads of fresh cabbage. For the meal plan we included a link to pick your favorite slaw to pair with the beet sandwich.

Heirloom Tomatoes – we’re working really hard to make sure the tomatoes get to you in great shape. We recommend taking your CSA Share home in the box (return it the following week). When you open the box, carefully remove the tomatoes first. If by chance a tomato has a crack or bruise, the flavor will not be affected, just use it as soon as possible. Everything else in the share will be fine if you want to pull out the bag and put the whole thing in the fridge after you remove the tomatoes. Tomatoes have the best flavor if you store them on the counter instead of the refrigerator. Enjoy!
