We’ve been very busy on the farm these last few weeks. Late May and early June is the time of year we like to call the planting marathon. Greenhouses are full of transplants to be put out, and there are boxes full of seeds to plant. We now have close to 30 acres planted everything from Arugula to Zucchini. And there’s still more to go in.
Next Thursday our CSA pick-ups begin and as we were looking around to see what veggies we would have for our first deliveries, we noticed the weeds! The warm weather, longer days and our fertile ground really made them pop! So we took a few days this week to hand-weed the onions, carrots and beets. Most days we have been splitting the crew up and sending them to do different tasks, but on Thursday we had “all-hands on deck” the whole crew weeding at once. It was a nice to have everyone working hard in one place, lots of interesting conversations, and a ton of work got done.
We are so looking forward to next week and busy harvests for the Ithaca, Cortland and Auburn CSA. We also can’t wait for Monday when we’ll be picking for our first Tuesday CSA deliveries to the Syracuse area. How about you – what do you look forward to the most about the upcoming season?
