Washing Beets for our CSA farm shares!
This coming week’s CSA share boxes look to be full of exciting new veggies. We should have a nice selection of Beets, Fennel, Kale, Mini Cabbages, more bunched Onions, and we’ll be picking Parsley again next week also.
About Those Beets: We’ve heard over the years that many folks LOVE beets while others, well lets just say, “care for them less.” To be honest with you, I was once in the latter camp, but over the years we’ve learned how to better take advantage of Beets culinary virtues, and now, I really do truly love beets and look forward to them in our share – So, I’ll try and dig up some recipes to share in the “Your Share this Week” emails and on the website as well. If you’re in the Beet lover camp, maybe you’d be willing to share some suggestions in the comment section of this post.
On the Possible list there are two crops that are just about to pop big time, Summer Squash and Cucumbers – hopefully we see them in the boxes this week. The wet and heat have been giving our Lettuce problems – they look great in the field, until you try and harvest them and the bottoms of the heads are all rotted out! This is pretty normal given the conditions, and there isn’t much (aside from chemicals we’ve sworn off) that can be done about it. So there may not be Lettuce in the boxes this week, we’ll see though, we might pull it off.
