Fall Farm Share Carrots
It’s hard to believe that August is drawing to a close, but what’s even a bit more unbelievable is that we are only Half Way through the CSA season. So much more bounty to come!
This week our Academic Season CSA Shares begin – Welcome students and faculty! If the Academic Share seems to look a lot like the small share – well thats because it is. The contents of the Small and Academic CSA Shares are identical, the only difference is the label on the box, and importantly, the start date. If you have a Small CSA share, please be careful not to take the boxes labeled Academic Season this week especially as they have our Welcome Card stuffed in them.
As for the crops, for the most part everything is doing quite well – Late Blight did destroy our Roma Tomato field, but we sill are getting a nice crop from the high tunnels. We started to dig our Potatoes again this week, the yields are disappointing but we planted so many that we should have them for a while anyhow. Our Lettuce crop is bumping still, and the Peppers are starting to go from the trickle they’ve been at, to a full tilt bumper crop. We picked the Italian Style Eggplants for Saturday Market pick-up and there should be plenty again for the mid-week pick-ups, maybe the end of the week as well. Cooking Greens are a bit thin right now, we might be able to squeeze in some kale from our old plantings, in another week we’ll be picking from our Fall plantings of Kale.
The farm store deliveries went very smoothly this week – thank you so much to all who ordered from us! We’ll be adding Sweet Italian Peppers to the list this week – they are amazingly sweet, and great for roasting. Also we’ll continue to have the Italian Red Heirloom Tomatoes we added the middle of last week. We do sometimes sell out of items, when this happens they’ll no longer show up on the farm store list, however as soon as we harvest more and adjust our inventory they re-appear.
